First Step and First Word

Each baby's first step and first word are so memorable. You want to savor each one and celebrate over the unique joy that each one provides... Except for when they say take their first step and say their first word both within a couple of minutes from each other - as was the case with our Myah Michelle.

We were at my friend Pam's house last Wednesday evening, March 31st (one day before Myah turned 11 months old). Pam had 10 or so Yorkie puppies there - each no more than about 4 pounds. They surrounded Myah and she was mesmerized at them. We kept saying, "Look at the puppies, Myah! Aren't they cute?" And what do you think was her first word? Yep, you guessed it..."Pup." She said it repeatedly that evening and every time since accompanied by a big grin when I ask her if she wants to go back to Pam's to see the puppies.

And if that wasn't enough for one evening, a few moments later, Pam was holding Myah by the hips a few feet away from me. Pam let go, Myah stood there on her own for a second (a rare occurrence that we'd caught by chance only two or three times previously) and then took a step towards me all on her own! Her second step turned into a sit on the floor, but Don and I and Pam and Pam's mom, grandma and brother all saw Myah's unmistakable first step.

Myah has a wonderful personality that is coming out more and more each day. I can't wait to hear her talk more so that I can find out a bit more of what is going on inside that little head. I have a feeling that it's going to make me laugh so hard. :-)
